Katerina Murysina – Fashion Illustration

I was born and live in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Ever since I can remember I’ve been painting. My love for illustrations and drawings started in my childhood when I watched Soviet and Disney cartoons. I was caught not by the story lines but by the way it all was drawn and by the way it all was created. No matter what, I wanted to be able to do the same.

I studied at Polytechnic University to be a designer, went to France for a semester to study animation. After I came back to Saint Petersburg being full of inspiration and excitement I got a job in the biggest department store in the city as the senior designer, show case designer and illustrator. This affected my creative work a great deal, I immersed myself in the world of fashion of which I had never even thought before. I was coming up with some strange extravagant window concept sketches, which later under my supervision were reborn into something dimensional and vivid. This field of design is as commercial as it could possibly be. The experience I had received in the fashion field taught me how to open myself and be not afraid to cross the borders of my own conventional views, try something new.

At the same time I was finding my creative relaxation in painting beautiful Asian girls, who have long been astounding me with their allure and grace. I am really inspired by the culture and the art of Oriental countries. A year ago I started to learn Chinese to better understand their mentality.

In 2016 I decided to go back to square one. After almost 5 years of working for a big company I resigned and decided to dedicate myself fully to illustration and painting.
